Meet the WI LC Members!
Rachel has been a Dedicated WI DEN Leader, serving as our LC Chair since 2007, developing and leading a team of educators across the state to provide virtual, in-person and state-wide professional development opportunities in Wisconsin. Rachel is currently teaching in the Muskego-Norway School District as a Technology Integrator.
Rachel is a certified SMART Master Trainer since 2006, consistently presenting at both State and National conventions. Rachel was one of 8 teachers selected for the SMART Connections Program -advising 8 kids for a 10 day learning event in Canada. She earned her Masters of Arts in Education from Aurora University and is Certified in K – 8 education, specializing in technology and effective Discovery Education integration. Rachel is excited to be attending the DEN Summer Institute in MT 2012!
As a Discovery Educator leader, Rita is a DEN Guru in seamless classroom technology integration. In 2011, Rita was selected as one of the 5 DEN Gurus; in 2009 she was selected to participate in the Discovery Student Adventure,traveling to China for 15 days.
An Apple Distinguished Educator since 2007, Rita has been developing curriculum and showcasing student work in a variety of ways and obtained the Apple Certified Associate Degree in the iLife ’09 Suite. Having taught several grad classes on the iLife and the iWork Suite, Rita’s goal is to make technology integration a natural and fun part of the student’s learning. She is also a National Board Certified teacher with an MBA degree.
The newest member of the WI LC, Peg packs DENergy into her classroom and on the Web. New to DEN, after paticipating as a Siemens STEM Fellow in 2010 followed by a Siemen’s STEM Team Member in 2011, Peg began to effectively integrate STEM into her high school math courses using many aspects of Discovery Education Streaming, embracing 21st C. Learning through the support of her DEN PLN and Discovery Webinars. Peg is a National Board Certified Teacher for A-YA mathematics, and serves as a volunteer tech integration coach. Peg enjoys teaching students how to utilize and research STEM within the DE suite, mash web tools, resources and iPad apps to publish dynamic 21st C projects, shared globally as STEM teacher resources.
Karie Huttner has been teaching elementary bilingual/Spanish for 14 years, investing the last four years in Verona. Karie is a lead instructor for a collaborative research project with UW Whitewater, improving student learning for second language students. Karie is phenomenal at integrating technology, educating students to be 21st C learners while bridging between English and Spanish languages. Karie has been involved in international DEN student projects such as “Rock Our World” and “Poetry Slam.” Karie integrates DE resources throughout her instruction, sharing her experiences and feats through consistent, quality blog posts and WI DEN Event support.

Cathy Houchin has been integrating DE Resources and tools for the last 7 years,serving on the leadership council for the last 6 years. Cathy is an experienced music teacher, having earned a Masters in Music Education and having taught grades K-12, choir, music and band. She currently teaches K-5 Music, inspiring young learners to express themselves through 21st C web tools and resources. Cathy is excited to be chosen as a DENSI 2012 participant, ready to stretch her teaching to the next level.
