New…

I am always wondering what other states are doing when it comes to integrating technology into to the classroom.  The last “new” things included wikis, blogs, podcasts, etc, and I am wondering if these have become commonplace in other districts around the world.  I am unsure.  They are certainly not commonplace in the district I work in.  What are some ways that you are using blogs, wikis and podcasts in your classrooms?

I work in a school district which has strict internet safety guidelines, I find that that we excel in using the technology with which we are given. Currently our school system has purchased smart boards and our ITRTs are helping teachers integrate their use within the classroom. It has been a great review tool in preparing students for tests and a fun way for them to complete their reviews when the stress of a test is bearing on them. Wikispaces is a Web 2.0 tool that we are initiating into select classrooms at the secondary level. I would have to say that although blogging, wikispaces, and podcasts are all tools with which we are familiar, one has to keep student safety at the forefront of lesson planning and it is sometimes best to use the tools that are readily available and use them to their fullest potential.
