Tony’s word for the week… "automagically"

Day 4…Thursday, iPods can be used for everything!!
~~~~~~~~~~coming soon
K12 Tech Camp - Midweek report
Day 3 had us starting our project creations, using iMovie/iPhoto and all the effects and transitions that can be used…and intro to the programs for most of us.
Tony Vincent’s site http://www.learninginhand.com/blog/ is keeping track of all the keynotes he gives us~http://www.learninginhand.com/softreset/index.html and on Tuesday he spoke about podcasts and showed uo what’s out there…including one done by a few women (so many men in podcasting): http://techchicktips.net/
Soft Reset is the podcast for those using handhelds in education. Hosted by Tony Vincent and Mike Curtis, you’ll learn helpful tips, hear about useful resources, and listen to insightful discussion about topics handheld-using educators care about.
Day 3:
We got our introduction to GarageBand, a free application that is cross-platform, Mac/PC. This has so many musical files you DON’T have to create, but if you’re feeling musical~ you can create and lay down tracks!  So we grabbed our iMovies and started adding our tracks and customizing our projects.
Tony Vincent’s keynote:
Blogging and RSS:
How to and why…
Blogger is free:
https://www.blogger.com/start
Blogging can be anything, and can allow sharing of embedded videos, etc. Sharing class assignments, you-name-it!
enjoying the stay, company and information!
Plug and Play Continues
Well, Plug and Play 2.0, Day One:
We all piled into our respective coaches to head out on our field trips: The Reid Park Zoo,  Pima Air Park, Sonoran Desert Museum, Tohono Chul (botanical park)…we took video and stills to come back and create projects.
My group went to Tohono Chul- we got some great lizard footage and a great "bit" with a very animated rubber rattler…we’re making a "movie" with iMovie and Garage Band, while other sessions are creating Web pages, and iPod multimedia projects.
Tucson got a wonderful rain burst later on- and it started out as a cool, overcast day, good for us being outside a few hours.
We returned to the resort, got some info on iTunes, iPhoto, and Tuesday we’ll continue with iMovie and a keynote from Tony Vincent, working on our multimedia project at day’s end.
The resort here at Westward Look is very cool- networking and meeting folks from AZ is so very WORTH the "price" for the camp, too!
I believe the camp cost is $400 for the week, and the resort is very well-suited for a week away, or a small vacation for the family (some brought theirs for a small added charge).
This is only the second year of this "Plug and Play" by the AZ K-12 Center - a group doing some wonderful training for educators in Arizona!
Check out the opportunities available through the AZ K-12 Center - like Discovery, many of their "staff" here at the camp are still classroom teachers/tech folks still in their respective public education districts in central AZ.
Guest Blogging from AZ K-12 Tech Camp
This week we will have Darcy White as out guest blogger.  Read along this week as she relays her experience at a Web 2.0 Summer Camp!
June 10, 2007, AZ K-12 Center Tech Camp,
"Plug and Play 2.0: Building Your Own Website, Podcasting 101, and Multimedia"
Westward Look Resort, Tucson AZ
Let me first say that i was FORTUNATE enough to win this wonderful week at our own AzTEA’s PEAK conference back in Nov. 2006- and for the girl that always wins the silly things, this was quite a bonus, starting off my summer conference series acorss the U.S., but more on that later~
The AZ K-12 Center (http://www.azk12.org/) gave tech camp participants brand new iPod shuffles upon registration~intent was to use as flash drives for the week of creations, but this past MAC user will use it for songs, later on~ i’m planning to use my 4 gig flash and mp3 player to grab and take back nightly, to my lonely PC…
All tech "toys" are provided here at camp, and Day will will have us all out on field trips gathering video and stills to bring back and work on throughout the week.
Tony Vincent (http://www.learninginhand.com/, http://tonyvincent.net/?q=blog), was our keynote speaker on the Sonoran rooftop at the resort extolling the virtues of all that is out there…from website creations he started back in 1999 in  Omaha (reminds me of a young(er) Hall Davidson) to his current use of bloglines.
The first of many wonders from Tony was http://www.gizmoz.com/ - if you’ve never used blue mountain’s ecards veepers, you MUST check this out! Kids will love it!
**Tony will be giving us pointers and tips throughout the week, in daily keynotes.
Day One will head us out on our respective field trips to gather video/stills to bring back to camp and create a multimedia project throughout our week here, the aim is to show and model for our students when we return to school.  We’ll be using MAC products and so my personal challenge will be to gleen all i can to transfer back to the PC mindmeld.
I’m also finding AZ DEN members as i go- at least two from the AZ K-12 Center, so far.
wahoo!
A Little Summer Reading…
Darcy White, Arizona STAR DE, has been busy writing this spring.  Here is a taste of the introduction to her article published in the Cable in the Classroom Magazine:
Today’s audiovisual learners choose interactive, technology-based stimuli on a daily basis.  As a result, teachers need to come up with unique ideas to keep students engaged for not just the 180-plus days a year in school, but throughout the summer vacation as well. Cable in the Classroom Magazine is happy to help. We checked in with curriculum directors, technology specialists, and educators for new ways to keep students on track during summer and holiday breaks.
