I work with thousands of educators each year as I conduct face-to-face trainings and presentations across the state, but not all teachers and Media Specialists are able to get away from their classrooms during the busy school year to get training. Recognizing this, Discovery Education continues to offer several free training options that you can access through the Teacher Center menu on the unitedstreaming site, including a series of one-hour online events called Webinars.
In simple terms, a “webinar” is a web-based instructional session conducted by a member of the Discovery training team or a special presenter. Registration instructions and information about upcoming sessions are posted in the Teacher Center, and sessions in the coming weeks include such topics as the “Inspired Classroom,” Digital Storytelling, TimeLiner, and advanced PowerPoint techniques.
In about two weeks, Discovery Education is launching a special Webinar series — EdTechConnect — to help teachers integrate media and technology into the classroom. Discovery Education will connect you with the experts who will answer your questions and bring you new insights. As with all of our training Webinars, all you need is a telephone and a computer connected to the Internet and a cadre of experts will virtually join you at your desk. Here is the press release for the first EdTech Connect session featuring Hall Davidson, director of our DEN team:
WHEN: Wednesday, January 18th at 5 PM EST
TOPIC: A walkthrough of the incredible wealth of teaching media resources available on the internet — videos, images, sounds, music, speeches, projects and more! Also, tips and tricks for making these resources accessible and friendly for students. And Hall will share with you a secret for ensuring that media resources can be tied to your own state standards.
REGISTRATION: For information and to register, click here.
Like all Discovery Webinars, this session is free. There is a limit of 200 participants for this special event, so if you are interested, I recommend that you sign up now. Here is my question for you–as we plan future Ed Tech Connect webinars and other training modules in the Teacher Center, what topics do you want to see included? Are there any specific presenters from Illinois or other parts of the country that you would recommend for future programs? Please add your comments below and I will pass along your suggestions to our planning team.
