The Spring DEN competition ended on Friday, and I was pleased that a large number of Discovery Educators shared with me the ways that they have been active in the schools and districts. I am very pleased to announce that the winner of the InFocus LCD projector is Barb Baumann. Barb teaches in the Fieldcrest School District in Minonk, Illinois, and she takes responsibility for many other initiatives as well. In a short message that she posted to the DEN Illinois blog recently, Barb wrote "I am currently not only a classroom teacher but also the lead teacher for our building and a technology aide to assist the tech director with anything that will help make her job go a bit smoother. I love using new technology and learning more about ways to incorporate it in my classroom.
During the span of the competition, Barb uploaded several lesson and project files to the Educator Resource section of the DEN site and completed all of the online Interactive Training modules on the unitedstreaming site. She also scheduled a Digital Connection workshop for several members of her staff that evolved into a face-to-face training session in which I teamed with Barb at Fieldcrest South Elementary School a few weeks ago.
Barb was scheduled to join us at the Midwest Summer Institute in Chicago this week, and I had hoped to make the award presentation to her in person. Unfortunately, complications from surgery have kept her from attending the Institute, and so our next best option is to send our congratulations through the blog. Thanks, Barb, for all that you do for the teachers and students in the Fieldcrest School District. Today is the one year anniversary of the official launch of the Discovery Educator Network, and so it is fitting to honor a Discovery Educator who serves as a great example of the many reasons that we formed the Network.
Thanks also the the entire group of Discovery Educators with whom I work in Illinois, Minnesota, and Iowa–we appreciate all of the great work that you do!
