T+L Conference

WOW!!  What a fantastic day!  We started the day with an inspiring performance by Deneen Frazier Bowen.  She illustrated the need to meet students where they are and best teach them by using things they are interested in by portraying various personalities.  AFter her performance we were broken into four groups for training.  First I practiced using Photo Story.  I have used this program in the past but I can’t wait to get back to school and explore some of the new ideas I learning during this training.  Next our group learned about the video Ipod and how to incorporate it in showing united streaming videos.  After this session we were treated to a delicious buffet.  Finally, our group learning how to put ourselves into United Streaming editable videos by using a green screen.  How excited my kids and I wll be to see them actually star in a video that we can project on our Smartboard or post on our class web site.  In addition to the wonderful training, the Discovery Educator employees have been exceptional hosts!!  I have loved getting to know them and hearing their ideas for incorporating new technology ideas into our classrooms.  I can’t wait to see what is in store for us tomorrow.  The biggest problem is deciding which sessions to attend!

I’m glad to hear the conference is going well. I can’t wait to see you try out what you have learned with your class! Keep up the good work!

Another fantastice day at the T+L conference! I started my day by learning about a program that is new to me called eZediaQTI. I will be able to use it to help the kids make digital stories. They gave each of us a copy of the program so I am excited to be able to begin working with it. I was excited to run into a friend and fellow Discovery Educator from Milwaukee that I met at the SMART Board Exemplary Educator conference in Calgary a year ago. I was able to hear a SMART Board presentation by her fellow teacher. I jump at any chance I get to hear more about the SMART Board. She had some new ideas that I am anxious to try when I get home. I think I would be lost at this point without my SMART Board and United Streaming!!! What did I ever do without them? This afternoon we loved listening to Hall Davidson speak about using the video ipod with videos. You not only get lots of good information from Hall but he has a great and entertaining presentation!! Okay– I am convinced I REALLY need a new ipod!! I ended my afternoon by listening to a Brain Pop presentation. If you teach the lower grades you might be interested to know that they are developing a site called brainpop jr. At this point and until it is through the development stage, everything on the jr site is free. What a great dinner we were able to attend this evening. Discovery once again proved to be the most excellent host as they hosted a dinner at Eddie Dean’s Ranch in Dallas. I can’t believe I rode the mechanical bull but I did and it was quite a fun experience. Time to wrap up a second wonderful day in Dallas and dream about what is in store for tomorrow.

Who else would treat you to a conference where you are entertained, INSPIRED, educated, wined and dined, valued as a professional and given a ride on a mechanical bull?!? You guessed, the wonderful people from Discovery!
The T and L conference has been a great learning environment full of presenters eager to share the newest technology and full of exciting ways to implement them into your class. I have unpacked my head each night onto my computer to make room for all the new things each day brings. I look forward to sharing everything with my staff and students so they too will benefit from this great gift from Discovery. I can’t wait to get back and start story boarding, releasing my computers to my kids and standing back a bit and maybe even a little podcasting. I look forwarding to packing my head once again tomorrow.
