Silver Spring National Institute Day #1… Hit the Ground Running

Img_0575Wow! What a day… I left Columbia this morning and headed to Washington, D.C. (Silver Spring, MD), arrived at the hotel at 2:25 checked in to my room and headed off to the National Institute Kick Off. What a great start to the week!

Scott, Lance, and Jannita welcomed the room of 50 educators to the Discovery Education Headquarters. Bill Goodwin, the President of Domestic Distribution and Enterprises stopped by to welcome us and thank us for all we do with the DEN. This evening is still in full swing as I type away… We were given our first assignment after seeing how much we know about Discovery with a CPS challenge game.

Img_0581_2 Our first group assignment was to create an enhanced podcast about how technology changes student learning. How fun was this? My group consists of STAR educators from Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and New York (plus SC, me).  All of us are in some type of instructional technology role. We talked about things we have done with teachers and created in the classroom. It took us 2 hours to create a 5 minute enhanced podcast (podcast with images). You could really call what we created a digital story of sorts. Here Joe Konecki and I are working on editing the podcast.

This is only the first night and not a moment to rest. I can’t wait to see what is in store of us the rest of the week!
