America Supports You, a partner of the Military Channel, is a Department of Defense program dedicated to connecting members of the U.S. Armed forces and their families with individuals, groups, and businesses who want to support and encourage our military men and women. The website (www.AmericaSupportsYou.mil) provides a one-stop location to connect service members and their families to nearly 400 homefront groups and 40 corporations ready to help. America Supports You homefront groups show support in many ways including writing letters and e-mails, sending care packages, offering scholarships for family members, and helping the wounded when they return home.
The fourth annual Washington, D.C. National America Supports You Freedom Walk, to remember victims of Sept. 11 and honor veterans, past and present, will commence on Sunday, September 7 at 9:00am at the Women in Military service for America Memorial at Arlington national Cemetery. The ASY Freedom Walk calls on people to reflect on the lives lost on Sept 11 and renew our commitment to freedom and the values our of our country. The ASY Freedom Walk is becoming a tradition in many places across the nation. Since 15,000 patriots took the initial walk in 2005, more than 390 Freedom Walks have taken place in all 50 states and at military installations around the globe. Students are also taking part in this important national tradition and organizing walks for their schools and communities.
Award-winning music will greet participants in the 4th Annual National America Supports You Freedom Walk when they reach the Pentagon on Sept. 7th. Country music group the Oak Ridge Boys will perform a musical tribute at the conclusion of the walk.
The National America Supports You Freedom Walk is free of charge and open to the public. Walkers must register in advance at www.AmericaSupportsYou.mil/FreedomWalk. Registration closes on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008.
