As educators we know that a key to student engagement is through real world application- authentic learning. Apply now to participate in the “Siemens Teachers As Researchers” (STARS) program. Deadline for applications is March 1, 2010.
Teachers selected in the program will participate in mentored research at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory on current topics of national interest with highly respected scientists and researchers during the short-term project process. Project teams will be composed of four to five members during the completion of assigned research. On top of the in-depth research, participants will gain knowledge and experience through seminars, mini-workshops, field trips, and tours enhancing the research process.
Finally, those teachers selected are financially compensated in the following manner:
- Paid travel (airline flights or up to $500 round-trip mileage reimbursement)
- Paid lodging – double occupancy housing at the Comfort Inn, Oak Ridge, TN
- Paid meals
- Paid entrance fees for field trips and cultural activities
- $300 stipend
- $500 mini-grant to purchase equipment and/or supplies for your classroom
