Growing the DEN PA Leadership Council

In an email from Lance Rougeux, Director, Discovery Educator Network, came the annual invitation to continue your membership in DEN Leadership Councils, begin your participation, and select the role you would like to take in directing your state’s LC. From years of being a part of the Discovery Education community, which actually feels more like family since I was a first year inductee, I can tell you that the benefits and opportunities to learn and grow are unparalleled, both for you and your students and teachers. No where else have I found the commitment and dedication to providing unlimited access to professional development opportunities that are cutting the edge in tools and product roll out. Nor can Discovery be topped in the highly creative opportunities it continues to offer its STARs, GURUs, and LC members. Without further ado, PLEASE consider joining our PA LC. You will find the camaraderie unbeatable and the benefits exponential. I already signed on and I hope you will do the same.

Happy Friday! Today we opened our annual process to help grow the DEN Leadership Councils.

From now until April 30, 2010 you have the opportunity to continue to be part of the DEN Leadership Councils for 2010-2011. Here’s how it works.

  • Any STAR can help take the lead, but this year we have decided that it is in the best interest of the community to keep the Chair, Events Coordinator and Blog Coordinator positions for existing LCs intact, thus making these positions a two-year term.
  • STARs who want to continue to serve on an existing LC or join an existing LC can express their interest by completing this form.
  • For STARs in states where a leadership council is not currently formed, express your interest here and select DEN LC as your leadership council. If we have enough STARs express interest in a given state we will form a new leadership council. Otherwise, these STARs will be part of the overall DEN Leadership Council.

All STARs who want to be part of the 2010-2011 DEN Leadership Councils must complete this form.

So here’s the basic FAQ document:

Q: If I am part of the DEN LCs already, what do I need to do to stay active for 2010-2011?
A: Complete the form.

Q: What if our LC just started this year, what do I need to do?
A: Complete the form.

Q: If I personally know Justin Karkow or Matt Monjan and want to be part of the DEN LCs for 2010-2011, what do I need to do?
A: Complete the form.

As for the DEN LC Symposium (July 11-16), the LC chairs, events coordinators and blog coordinators will be contacted by the DEN team to determine interest in attending. Each LC, including the national DEN LC, will be given three spots at the symposium. After we have spoken to all of the chairs, events coordinators and blog coordinators, any unfilled spots will be allocated to the particular LCs via a lottery system.

Our next DEN LC Insider webinar will take place on Monday, April 12 at 7 PM ET. Register today at: http://community.discoveryeducation.com/webinar

From today till the end of the school year, the DEN has a STAR-studded calendar of events. Please join us for them, and help us shape an even better, stronger PA LC for next year.
