Walks Across Texas!

A photowalk is designed to get people out and practicing photography skills in the company of others. Find out new things about your camera, how to shoot subjects better, and just relax with other teachers who enjoy it too!

Discovery Education is hosting three walks this Spring, in Austin, Houston and in Dallas.  These will be simultaneous events that conclude with an online meeting with both sites visiting with Discovery’s Joe Brennan. Come and enjoy the day with us!

9:00 am – Gather and meet up.

9:30 am – Tour the location you are at for fun-filled photography

12:00 am – Gather at local meeting place for sharing and lunch

1:00 pm – Cross-state Webinar with Discovery’s Joe Brennan. “Using Photography In The Classroom.”

1:30 pm – Door prizes and conclusion.

Local Details

Austin – (Austin Links) Meeting outside the Laguna Gloria Museum.  You will have the opportunity to travel the grounds and tour the villa during our time here.   After walking the grounds, we will retreat to the Waterloo Ice House on 38th for sharing and lunch.  Joe Brennan will meet us there, digitally of course, after we have a bit to eat.  The Austin walk will cover the cost of museum entry (if desired) and lunch. Register for Austin here!

Houston – (Houston Links)  Meeting at the Houston Arboretum. After enjoying the fantastic sites at the Arboretum,  the Houston group will gather at Hickory Hollow BBQ  for lunch. Joe Brennan will meet us there, digitally of course, after we have a bit to eat. Door prizes will help close out the day.  Register for Houston here!

Dallas/Ft Worth – (Dallas Links) The group will meet at River Legacy Park (Arlington). After a morning of letting the shutter bugs loose,  we will gather at the Social Bakehouse Café. Dallas/Ft Worth will hook up with the other two cities and guest speaker Joe Brennan online for some great photography-talk and lunch. There should be some great shots of Arlington to share as we select our favorites for friendly state competition. Register for Dallas/Ft Worth here!

For All Participants – You will be walking during the, um, PhotoWalk.  Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Bring your own camera as we will not be providing any photographic equipment. For better results, bring your own tripod if you have one.  Even on a sunny day, camera stabilization is a great tool to have.

We will be sharing our photography and do want to upload one from each teacher during lunch. If you have a laptop that you can bring, it would help the sharing process.

We expect to have our walk rain or shine. If we get floods like we had last Fall, we will post last-minute changes on this blog. We really look forward to having some teacher-relaxation fun on this day and hope you will join us!

This sounds awesome! I’m thinking that the Michigan DEN needs to copy your idea and host a photo walk.

I will be unable to attend the Photowalk in Houston. I am sad, but wanted for someone else to be able to go in my place this coming Saturday. Please let me know who I should contact.

I’m also commenting to let you know of the perfect discovery my daughter encountered visiting your blog. She came to understand plenty of details, including what it’s like to possess a very effective teaching style to let certain people easily gain knowledge of selected problematic issues. You actually surpassed visitors’ desires. Thanks for offering these beneficial, dependable, edifying and in addition cool tips on your topic to Mary.
