When was the last time educators were given not only the inside scoop on a new weekly television show but an invitation to help shape it?
WNET and PBS are about to change that with a new web-magazine and weekly television show,
NEED TO KNOW. The initiative will focus on current events, culture, health, science, politics, and the four all-important “e’s”: education, economy, energy, and environment.
Unlike most television shows that have a companion website,
NEED TO KNOW starts with a website whose content builds during the week and culminates with the Friday evening program. In addition, viewer interaction with the website will help determine what gets into the show.
Although some of you might want to connect your students to NEED TO KNOW, that’s not what this email is about. This is about you. “Collectively your voice is powerful, your thoughts matter, and public television cares what you think. By participating in the website and becoming a viewer of the show, you will have the chance to make sure that topics important to you get intelligent, balanced, and in-depth coverage.”- Ron Thorpe, Vice President & Director of Education, PBS.
The full website launched on Monday, May 3rd: www.PBS.org/NeedToKnow. The show premieres Tonight, Friday, May 7th. PBS hopes you will be part of this conversation and help determine what it is that Americans “need to know.”
Happy Viewing & Participating
