Hello everyone! I’m a newbie to the Leadership Council for DEN 2010-11 and looking forward to a very rewarding year.
First, I have a confession to make; I am a “Virgin Blogger.” There I’ve let out one of my secrets. Yes, I am “blog-a-phobic.” But with every school year I like to step out of my box. Why hadn’t I ever blogged? I have never felt confident about my writing ability, as a result of a high school teacher who shall remain nameless and that was well over 30 years ago. So you are reading my very first blog post and I’ve chosen to introduce you to a wonderful site my students used last year. I do not want to impose my phobias on my students, so they blogged all last year on an amazing site, KidBlog.org. A teacher designed the Kidblog.org platform for middle school and elementary school teachers and students. Best of all, KidBlog.org is free, safe and simple to use. Your students do not need e-mail accounts to use KidBlog. You have complete control over the student blogs and comments. The enthusiasm, motivation and writing I experienced from my students were incredible compared to past years. I couldn’t believe it, they were even blogging in their free time from home. So, I’m very excited to get started with the blogging again this school year. What more could you ask for? Well, pair it with Discovery Education and you have a match made in heaven. You can share a video right in a blog post; the students’ can view and comment. You’ll be surprised at the higher-level discussions that follow during the interaction of the students’ comments. You don’t have to limit your students to only their classes’ comments. You can invite other classes to join in your class discussions.
Don’t forget: There are many wonderful Webinars scheduled for this week and the month of August.
