DonorsChoose + Groupon = Opportunity!

I’m certainly not Oprah, but both DonorsChoose.org and Groupon make my list of favorite things. For those of you who are not familiar with these tools, here’s a snapshot.

DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to donate to classrooms. Teachers across America post classroom project requests on DonorsChoose.org. Then, you can browse project requests and give any amount to the one that inspires you. Once a project reaches its funding goal, DonorsChoose delivers the materials to the school.

Groupon negotiates huge discounts on popular local goods, services, and cultural events. They offer the deals to subscribers in a free daily email. The deals are activated only when a minimum number of people agree to buy. A not so well know fact about Groupon is that you can purchase a deal offered in any city, even if you don’t live there.

Here’s where this gets good!

Today, Groupon is offering DonorsChoose.org credits at 60% off. You can get $25 for $10, $50 for $20, or $100 for $40. SERIOUSLY! The price paid is also tax deductible. Everyone wins.

I am a 3rd grade teacher and think both of these sites are wonderful! We would love anyone to help out our classroom at donorschoose.org/cynthiamadera

I teach in the Memphis City Schools. I LOVE my public school! In a city where there are many private schools and schools in the suburbs, it is refreshing to teach right in the city in a very diverse school. Public funds don’t trickle down much to my school. We actually don’t get much money because the students are high performing; most of the money goes to low performing schools. I would love to reward my hard-working AP Calculus students with at least one tablet for the classroom. Here’s the link to our project http://www.donorschoose.org/beckynewman

Hey all! If you are looking for a place to use your donors choose deal or just a place to donate, my students are in need of calculators and whiteboards! The school’s proficiency is as follows: Math: 1.6%, English: 12.4%. Percent of the student body on free and reduced-price lunch: 77%. Our students definitely need what resources they can get. Please donate what you can and check out our donors choose site. We really appreciate it! Much thanks :)
