NASA Educator Trek – Exploring the Forces of Flight

This workshop is designed for educators of grades 5 to 9, however all educators are welcome!

Did NASA experiment with flying saucers? Would a saucer-shaped aircraft actually fly? Participants will conduct hands-on investigations into the forces of flight, the effects of these forces on aircraft, calculating airspeed, flight simulation and modeling, the engineering design process, and even flying saucers! The purpose of this workshop is to model the use of inquiry-based methods in the classroom while incorporating free NASA education resources to teach content related to the field of Aeronautics. In particular, this workshop will focus on helping students address curriculum strands including Forces & Motions, Science as Inquiry, and Science & Technology. Come join the fun and take away your own model aircraft!

This workshop is designed for educators of grades 4 to 9, however all educators are welcome!

Learn about human spaceflight and robotic missions that explore space!  A NASA education specialist will connect STEM curriculum to NASA human and robotic missions.  This workshop highlights NASA’s Spacesuits/Spacewalking and Robotics websites and education kits.  Educators will participate in a hands-on workshop that involves spacesuit activities, robotic activities, and a virtual tour of the websites.  Take home resources to use in your classroom and learn how to connect them to your curriculum!
