Geocaching Day 2011

On May 21, 2011 we will host our third annual DEN Geocaching Day! Every Discovery Educator is encouraged to venture out with some colleagues on May 21 and have some fun geocaching as you connect with your fellow educators one more time before the summer. Do you want to join us?

For muggles (non-geocachers) and pros alike, we’re kicking things off with a special session at the DEN Spring Virtual Conference (SVC2011). “Geo huh? What’s Geocaching in the Classroom?”  will answer the basic questions of “What is gecoaching?” and “How do I get started?” as well as emphasize the curricular connections of geocaching.

So go ahead and mark May 21 on your calendars.  We’ll have a group of DEN Guides (experienced geocachers) host events in their areas. Keep tuned in to the DEN blogs as we get closer for more information! (Can’t wait to share this year’s geocoin!!!)

Ever since Dr. Jan Frank from Thomas Edison School in Meriden, CT, had introduced her 6-th grade science students to Geocaching, my daughter obtained the first-hand outdoors experience with coordinates, cartography, geology, history, biology, math, social relations, and more. It is the true learning through fun activities with high levels of satisfaction and measurable results. What a great utilization of the most recent technology in conjunction with the outdoors appreciation to achieve educational goals!

Last year’s Geocaching Day (2010) hooked me on geocaching. Although I’m no expert, I had a blast and I’ve managed to lure others into joining me.

This year I hope to have more teachers join us.

Looking forward to participating in the event this year! We received a grant to start a geocaching program in our school, and will be running our first trips this week.

I hosted a geocache event in both 2009 and 2010 on Discovery Education’s geocaching day. I’m now retired from teaching and will be in Flagstaff, Arizona on May 21st. I’d love to attend an event if there will be one.

Is this event list on the Geocaching site?
Are each event location to be posted by the event planner?
    Looking forward to this event.
