SE Michigan Geocaching Day
The Michigan Leadership Council hosted three events across the state for teachers as part of Discovery Educator Network’s Geocaching Day! Events were held in Battle Creek, Flint, and Milford. It was a great day of collaboration, learning, and outdoor fun. The Milford group found 7 caches along Milford Trail, a path that goes from the Milford Public Library to Kensington Metropark. The scenery was beautiful and sun was shining.
After finding all seven of the caches we searched for, we discussed plans for implementation in the classroom. A high school science teacher who teaches a forensic class (like CSI) plans to use geocaching as part of a problem-solving crime scene to catch a murderer. A middle school math teacher plans to use geocaching as part of her algebra class, creating a multi-cache scavenger hunt with a study of slope at the end. We brainstormed many more ideas as well!
We all appreciate the sponsorship by Discovery Education for events like this. Thanks, DEN!

Thank you so much to Pam for organizing and to DEN for sponsoring an informative and adventurous day of “edu-caching”. We could not have had better weather and the Milford Bike Trail was a nice setting with a good variety of caches. I look forward to passing along ideas and caching info to colleagues who want to bring fun learning into the classroom.
TFTC! (Thanks for the cache–translated for the muggles!)

Thank you for the sensible critique. Me and my neighbor were just preparing to do a little research about this. We got a book from our local library but I think I learned more from this post. I’m very glad to see such excellent information being shared freely out there…
