The 214 Challenge 9-20-12

My very creative friend and colleague, Lance Rougeux started a project last year with his wife’s class. When he travels, he gathers information about the location and the students use the clues to figure out where in the world Mr. Rougeux went. He provides 2 facts, 1 clue, and 4 pictures (214) for the students. When he told me about this idea, I thought, “Gosh, those are some lucky kids!” Well recently I started thinking how awesome it would be to include the DEN on the 214 Challenge. I’ve been talking to my colleagues about participating and posting here on the blogs. I hope that you’ll take the challenge, and even more, I hope you’ll invite your students to figure out where in the world we are.

Here’s your first 214 Challenge:

2 Facts

The only cars on this island located on one of the Great Lakes of the US are emergency vehicles.
This island was the second National Park in the US, after Yellowstone.

1 Clue

Fort Holmes is located here.

4 Pictures

Since this is the first in the series, there are some pretty good clues to help you. When you figure it out, leave a comment. If you decide to challenge your class (I hope you do!), let me know in the comments how they did.

Once your students complete the challenge, encourage them to learn at least one more thing about the location.

Here’s a link to a video on DE streaming you might want to share related to this mystery place.

My kids love it! If you could, please don’t leave the answer in the comments because then the kids see it when they read the blog. Thanks!!!
