At NCSTA this week, I learned about a new opportunity from the folks at Old Salem, in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Old Salem is widely known for the depth and breadth of their activities designed to provide authentic experiences for families and students to learn about life in colonial times, as the Moravians originally lived in the area. They have recently added a “Science Alive!” component to their educational offerings and are now working to tie history and science together in a hands-on way. The activities look awesome and the per-student cost is reasonable. I am excited about tying this component into my unit on Colonial America next year! If you coordinate an event with your students, please share your thoughts!
