NASA Educator Trek

Join the Museum and NASA instructors for a FREE educator trek in January on the Saturday of our Astronomy Days event! And/or consider volunteering with NASA educators on Sunday to learn NASA activities and practice your presentation skills! Educators are welcome to participate in one or both of these great opportunities!

 

NASA Educator Trek: Marsbound Engineering in the Classroom

NC Museum of Natural Sciences, Raleigh, NC

Saturday, January 26, 2013 10 am–5 pm

Cost: $25 deposit (will be returned upon completion of workshop)

 

This workshop is designed for educators of grades 6 to 8, however all educators are welcome!

 

Are you looking for innovative ways to engage your students in STEM with FREE resources and inexpensive household supplies while meeting and addressing NCES and the Next Generation Science Standards? This session will introduce teachers to NASA’s Marsbound activity, with an emphasis on integrating engineering design practices into the Physical Science and Earth and Environmental Science in Grade 6-8. Come join us as we explore the many education resources NASA provides. We will build model satellites to orbit the Earth, Moon, or Mars and then launch your model satellites with your personally designed balloon rockets! This workshop is FREE and includes take-home materials and lunch.

Volunteer and Learn from NASA Educators

Sunday, January 27, 2013 12 pm–5 pm (2 ½ or 3 hour shift)

 

On the Sunday of Astronomy Days, join us as a volunteer! Come and join the NASA Exhibits and Hands-on Activities during Astronomy Days to see NASA activities in action and become the presenter of the activity with the help of a NASA educator! NASA exhibits and Hands-on Activities will be open for teacher participation on Sunday, January 27th from noon to 5pm. To volunteer, fill out the attached Teacher NASA Volunteer Sheet and email it to Bonnie Eamick (bonnie.eamick@naturalsciences.org) by Friday, January 11.
