Twenty Days of Techbook – Twenty ideas, tips and tricks as our gift to you during this holiday season – Day 18

The Reading Jigsaw

Create groups of five students. Assign each group a different reading from Techbook within the concept you are studying. Each group reads their article. Then, each member of the group creates a one page summary of the article. The summary should have a drawn picture and a written caption that communicates the key idea(s) of the article. Then, assign each group member a letter (A,B,C,D,E). Now, jigsaw the groups so all the A’s in the classroom get together and all the B’s get together, etc… In these new groups, each student presents their summary page to the others and explains what their article was about. This is an effective way to share ideas from various articles while getting students in the role of teaching other students.
