Happy Memorial Day from Mousey and the Discovery Education team! Even though our office is closed today, we wanted to ensure Mousey provides some information about Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday that occurs annually on the final Monday in the month of May. The purpose of this day is to remember the men and women who lost their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces and Military. The day was actually formerly known as Decoration Day, having originated after the American Civil War.

Please share the 3 minute video segment, Origins of Memorial Day, with your students to help them understand why Memorial Day is celebrated.

We also have a 15 minute full video titled Holiday Facts and Fun: Memorial Day to share with your students. The resource includes Memorial Day Discussion Questions and a Memorial Day Teacher’s Guide to assist teachers with their lesson plans.

If by chance we have any readers who have served, are serving or plan to serve in the United States Armed Forces or Military, we want to thank you on behalf of Discovery Education for all that you do.

We hope that you and your students celebrate this day in the honor of our National heroes, and are able to use our resources to assist in the understanding and learning its significance. If you want to share your thoughts and comments please feel free to reach out to us at @DESupportStars with #mouseymondays! Happy Memorial Day and enjoy the rest of your week readers!
