Working with my son earlier tonight on his schoolwork led us to the website of my former school. As I scrolled down the main page to see what’s happened over the last year or so, a story caught my eye. One of the teachers at the school, who I’ve worked with at the beginning of my career and the past few years, was a finalist in the 2012 Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge. As you may or may not know, Discovery Education partners with Siemens to bring this challenge to schools across the country. Little did I know that one of my former colleagues was a finalist! She didn’t win, but I still congratulate the great work she’s doing with the kids at her school. Beyond the little blurb on the school website, I doubt this information has spread beyond the school to the community or city, and that’s a shame. We need to help spread the good news about what’s happening in our schools. Great things are occurring every week and not enough people know about them. Congratulations Mary Jean!
