Happy Mousey Monday from Mousey and the Discovery Education team! A decade ago on this day, the Spirit Rover was launched, beginning NASA’s Mars Exploration Rover mission. A Mars rover is an automated motor vehicle that moves itself across the surface of the planet Mars upon arrival. The advantage to these rovers is that they examine and explore more territory, which was the purpose of NASA’s mission.

Explore more about these exploration machines by using Discovery Education’s 12 minute video segment titled, “Mars Exploration Rovers”.

You can also share this 45 minute full video titled, ”Brink: New Life on Mars Special” with your students through Discovery Education streaming. This video will educate students on the history of exploration on Mars, and some of the findings and discoveries as a result.

Discovery Education’s Science Techbook users have access to the reading passage called Mission to Mars!  that is ideal for fourth grade reading level.

We hope that you and your students continue to enjoy Discovery Education in remembering today’s launch of the Spirit Rover, a decade ago! If you want to share your thoughts and comments please feel free to reach out to us at @DESupportStars with #mouseymondays!
