I have never attended the Den Summer Institute, but I’ve always envied those who have. This year it takes place in our own neck of the woods, Burlington, Vermont. Congratulations to all those wonderful DEN stars who were chosen to attend. But guess what! The rest of us are not going to be left out this year. Chad Lehman recently posted (http://blog.discoveryeducation.com/blog/2013/06/17/attend-densi-virtually/#comment-81752 ) that they will be streaming sessions live on July 16 and July 17. Click on the link to get to his post where he lists all the sessions. I especially hope to be able to participate in the 11:10 session on Wednesday, July 17 entitled “Bloomin’ with Discovery Education Board Builder. This is an exciting new feature for students that ” empowers students with the ability to curate, create, and synthesize content to express their personal curiosity, solve problems, and demonstrate their acquisition of knowledge like never before! ” (presented by Max Brooks) I met Max at Day of Discovery in Revere, MA this past month. I thought he did a terrific job in organizing that wonderful day of learning and collaboration.
Anyway, this is just one of the many exciting sessions they are sharing with us “off site.” You can head over to http://www.densi2013.com/ for more details.
Here is a screenshot of the page captured with Windows 7 snipping tool a few minutes ago.
You can also participate all week by following the event hashtag at #DENSI2013.
I have another idea I’d like to put forth. While this ability to participate virtually in DENSI is fabulous, I wish they would add one more feature. I wish they would designate at least one day of the week in the future for a “Meet and Greet” day where folks who live within driving distance of the event could sign up to attend for one day and be able to meet all the other DEN members with whom they have forged on-line relationships but have never met in person. Think about the excitement this could generate. I know I would drive to Burlington and even pay for a hotel room for overnight in order to be able to meet so many of my DEN heroes in person!
Happy 4th of July everyone.
