Mousey Monday – Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge

Happy Mousey Monday to our Cache and Cookies readers! Mousey is excited to share with you our Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge! Students, grades 5-8, are invited to create a 1-2 minute video describing a new, innovative solution that could solve an everyday problem. Ten finalists will be chosen for their passion for science, spirit of innovation and ingenuity, and effective communication skills. Finalists will participate in an exclusive mentorship with a 3M scientist, and participate in a final event at 3M headquarters in St. Paul, MN where one lucky student will win $25,000 and the title of “America’s Top Young Scientist”.

Important Dates

  • April 22, 2014 – Deadline for submissions
  • October 12-14, 2014 – Final Event at 3M Headquarters in St. Paul, Minnesota

Prizes

Grand Prize includes:

  • $25,000
  • Trip to Costa Rica
  • Title of “America’s Top Young Scientist”

 

Three Runner-Up Prizes include:

  • Trip to Costa Rica

 

Honorable Mention (total of 6 awarded) will receive:

  • “Excitations” for a $500 excursion

 

Top 10 Finalists will win:

  • $1,000
  • Participation in a unique summer mentorship with a 3M scientist
  • A trip to the 3M Innovation Center in St. Paul, MN to compete in the Final Event
  • A chance to win amazing prize trips

 

State Merit Winners (up to 51 awarded) will receive:

  • 3M Innovation Prize Packs
