By Rebecca Topol. Sean McComb, 2014 CCSSO National Teacher of the Year, speaks for all of us when he says that teachers are heroes. “We may not wear a cape, we may not fight crime, but we give kids a chance to really have hope in the opportunities of their lives”.
Everyone here at Discovery Education knows how crucial teachers are to individual students, and to the community at large. That’s why we’re dedicated to giving teachers our best every single day. For Teacher Appreciation Week we wanted to go the extra mile for the teachers of our Discovery Educator Network, who are always so willing to put in that extra mile themselves. We’ve packed this week with great activities, awards, spotlights, and videos for teachers and students alike.
- DEN Geocaching Day gives teachers the opportunity to go on a treasure hunt that will connect them with fellow educators. For groups that register, we will be sending out special DEN geocoins and other goodies!
- The DENny Awards will recognize members of the DEN Community who have truly shone in their community during this school year, and there’s still time to nominate a fellow Discovery Educator.
- For Take the DEN to Work Day we will be bringing you interactive story time, including a special appearance by children’s author Peter H. Reynolds. Gather your students for a good, old-fashioned story, and then let them meet and compete with students from all around the country!

We can never do enough to truly express our gratitude for teachers everywhere. We hope that these activities brighten your day, invigorate your classroom, and excite your students. From all of us at Discovery Education, thank you, and happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
