Five Ways to Interact with the DEN on Social Media this Summer

You’ve done it – finally signed up for that Facebook/Twitter/Pinterest/Instagram/Google+ account that your friends have been telling you to get. Now, how can you use them to connect with other Discovery Educators?

The list below compiles some great conversations that are already happening and also mentions a few that are new or new-again, so you can stay connected with the DEN all summer.

#DENthrowback competition

During the week of July 6th, we will ask you to post pictures to Instagram of past DEN events. They could be pictures from a past DENSI, other professional development event or a local meet-up. We will repost our favorites and the winner will get a cool Discovery prize!

#DENfitfriday

Not just for Fridays, #DENfitfriday is a 5-week fitness and nutrition plan to inspire educators to make exercise a more integral part of their lives. Each day you’ll find a new recipe or workout, with a special challenge on Fridays. The plan is already on week 4, but past exercises and recipes are still posted for use anytime. Join the online conversation on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram by hashtagging #DENfitfriday, and your picture could show up on the DEN fit Friday website.

DENbrarian Summer Reading

Every month, DEN members use the Discovery Education Pinterest to share classroom resources about a new book. Find out more about this summer’s books and how to be a contributor here.

DENvice

DENvice is a Facebook group created by Tracey Carpenter and Zulma Whiteford to help crowdsource answers to questions Discovery Educators might have. Besides general insight from DEN stars, DENvice hosts ‘speakers’ to weigh in on ideas and products useful for teachers. Like the DENvice Facebook page to join in on the conversation.

#DENtrivia

Friday trivia is returning! Every Friday, follow @discoveryed on Twitter. We will be posting trivia questions randomly throughout the day. The first person to respond with the correct answer will win a prize!

These are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to ways you can use social media to interact with other members of the DEN community. Want to mention something I missed? I would love to hear from you in the comment section!
