Fun Fact Friday: Pluto

Everyone knows that Pluto is small, but did you know that it’s smaller than Russia? It’s true!

Most folks know that Pluto lost its standing as a planet, but most people don’t realize how small it really is. For example, even the Earth’s moon is larger than Pluto, and a few other moons in our solar system are larger as well. Pluto’s actual size is estimated to be around 16 million square kilometers. Russia is actually over 17 million square kilometers, a full million more than Pluto!

While the debate may rage on in some scientific circles about whether Pluto is a planet, or a dwarf planet, or something else entirely, the one fact that all scientists seem to agree on is that Pluto is really small!
