A great weekend is planned starting the evening of Friday Oct. 17, 2014 to Sunday morning Oct. 19th, 2014. The highlights for the weekend include a day at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation Research Center located on the Chesapeake Bay in Annapolis. The Center will provide a high-quality professional learning experience that meets the evolving needs of teachers and schools through the Chesapeake Classroom program. The Chesapeake Bay is more than the Bay; the watershed encompasses 7 neighboring states and the District of Columbia. The Saturday program will focus on methods how to incorporate environmental education cross-curriculum and grade levels. The program will include collecting samples on the Bay on a traditional Chesapeake boat such as a Skipjack or Low-Rise and/or on the shoreline. In addition, Friday evening will include dinner on the Bay and a candlelight tour of Historic Annapolis. Learn why Annapolis became a major trading port on the Chesapeake Bay. Sunday morning will include wrap-up activities.
In the tradition of the DEN, participants will share a highlight from the weekend by taking the “Spotlight on Strategies” (SOS) challenge. Participants can work individually or in groups to create a new instructional strategy or use an existing strategy to share how they would teach something they learned from this rich weekend experience in their classroom. (See examples of SOS at http://blog.discoveryeducation.com/blog/tag/sos)
This program has been made possible with funding from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation Education Center and the Discovery Educator Network.
