Community Member of the Week: Jennifer Hall

Jennifer is a Educational Technology Specialist for Atlanta Public Schools in Georgia. She has used Discovery Education for over 10 years. She shared “As a middle school gifted language arts teacher, I integrated DE’s digital media in all of of my thematic units. The use of digital media engaged my students and being able use historical footage helped to create a context for my students’ learning. As an Educational Technology Specialist, I now share ways for my teachers to integrate DE resources and tools.”

J as Harry PotterHow are you involved in education other than your official role as a K-12 educator?
I created a website www.techtips411.weebly.com as a resource for #edtech tools for teachers. I am currently serving as the Lead for my district’s DEN Ambassadors spring cohort. I have presented at GaETC (Georgia Educational Technology Consortium) Conference and ECET2 (Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teaching and Teachers) in Atlanta.

When you’re not working where are we most likely to find you?
I am an avid photographer and love traveling – www.jlhallphotos.com One of my goals is to photograph the capital building in all 50 states.

What is your most memorable experience with the DEN?
I had the opportunity to present a session on “Engaging ELA Resources for DE” at DENapalooza in Atlanta in May of 2015. It was an awesome and reaffirming experience meeting fellow educators with such a passion for using digital media to engage learners.

Why did you become a teacher?Stonehenge
The impetus for pursuing a career in education was my passion for language arts (reading and writing) and a desire to create a positive, safe and engaging learning environment, which encouraged my students to become life-long learners. I was fortunate to have seventeen rewarding years in the middle school classroom. In my current role, as an Educational Technology Specialist, I now serve as a “teacher of teachers”.
