#CelebrateWithDE – World Soil Day

World Soil Day, celebrated annually on December 5, is a global day to raise awareness of the importance of soil as a critical component of our ecosystem.

Soil is a mixture of tiny rock particles, minerals, and decayed plant and animal material. It is the part of the ground in which plants grow, and without soil, there would be no plants on the land. Without plants, there would be no animals or people! Soil is a renewable resource – however, the erosion of soil happens quickly when soil is unprotected. Soil is unprotected when forests are cut down or farmland is left bare. Although soil is renewable, it takes many years for soil to form, so it is important to conserve this resource.
