We love hearing about student success in districts using Discovery Education Techbook. Over the years, we’ve gathered many such success stories, and it’s time to add Asheboro City Schools in North Carolina to that list.
Asheboro’s newspaper, The Courier-Tribune, recently reported on local student achievement through their usage of Science Techbook, writing that the digital textbook “has proven to be a game-changer” for all five of the district’s elementary schools.
The end-of-grade results for fifth-grade students drew the attention of the newspaper. Three years after implementing Science Techbook, Asheboro’s students realized a 42 percentage-point increase in the pass rate for state tests. These results were shared this month during an Asheboro City School board presentation, where a fifth-grade teacher and the district’s director of elementary curriculum attested to the impact Techbook has had on student test scores.
- Before Techbook: Science pass rate — 29.2 percent
- After Year 1: Science pass rate — 56.4 percent
- After Year 3: Science pass rate — 71.2 percent
The district is hoping to expand their Techbook experience with Math Techbook and Social Studies Techbook, according to the newspaper.
In 2016, Discovery Education was identified in The Ohio State University’s SpotOn initiative as the top digital resource publisher in K-12 Science, 6-8 Social Studies, and 6-12 Math — our audience for Techbook. And Tech & Learning‘s 34th annual Awards of Excellence named Science Techbook for NGSS as a winner in the New Products category.
Accolades like these are invigorating, but what’s more important to us is that our resources are truly helping students — and as Asheboro’s student results show, we are. We were also pleased to identify successful student outcomes in school districts such as Rock Hill Schools, Rowan-Salisbury Schools, and Oak Ridge Schools.
