Mention word problems in a math class and what do you get?  What do you mean everyone is not smiling?  You should visit Shannon Johnson and her 8th grade problem solving students for they have the solution- visual word problems!  Working in pairs, they formed a problem, produced a film, and are now solving a classmate’s problem.  I was overwhelmed with the diversity of real life situations they generated.  Math is truly everywhere.

I have reposted Shannon’s example as well as links to her four classes.

That was an educating peice. :) I loved it how they mixed their problems, w/ real life problems. My math teacher does it a similar way. Though she mixes it up w/ Sceince. Both are real fun and exicitng to watch and do.

    Natasha,
I’m glad you liked the word problems- and you know that I am happy to know you are still thinking of science!
