Do you want to be able to electronically share (and acquire) files, links, and assignments with students?
Do you want to encourage collaborative learning but discourage private chats?
Do your students need an easy way to share information (files, links) between home and school?
If you answered YES to any other these questions, you need to go to www.edmodo.com This is a free private micro blogging site. I’ve been using it this week with several classes to share information (i.e., files, directions, and links). I quickly checked my account last night and found students sharing information, asking questions, and even moderating their own behaviors (one student used it as a chat and said “HI”- he quickly got feedback from another classmate who said “this is not a chat site- please keep working”).
While the teacher has various options (you can write to everyone, one student, one class or yourself), the students can only write to the teacher, the class, or themselves. There is no student to student option. I’ve got another teacher interested in literature circles and I’m looking for more ideas- how could you and your students use edmodo?

I love edmodo. Best thing I eva used.
Outstanding tool! Edmodo is what every class needs.
