It’s pumpkin time!  And registration for Jen Wagner’s fall themed project is now open. How Many Seeds in  Pumpkin is geared for Prek through third grades. Math is the main focus (think estimation, counting by 10’s, tallying).  Several teachers participated last year with very positive results. For project details and to register, click here. Plan to submit your data from October 28-30.

Here’s one of Teachertube’s featured videos.  Be patient- it took a while to load (and while it says it’s over 7 minutes, it is  be really only about 3).  So do you know where to put the numbers?

Or a math or history course?

She would go to HippoCampus (hippopotamus translates to “river horse” in Greek).  Sponsored by the Monterey Institute for Technology,  HippoCampus  (which is correlated by textbook and topics) provides a variety of multimedia opportunities for math, science, and US History.

Here are a few samples of what you will find as you explore this free site:

  •    Roll you mouse over this image to get details about a Puritan church
  •    Check out the inside of the atom
  •     Take a turn at the water cycle

Special thanks to Ed Aguiles for sharing this resource.  While it is geared to the high school student, many of the resources would be successful at lower grade levels.

Want to practice your fraction skills?  Don’t have a partner for those online math games?  Try Calculation Nation! This site (created by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) provides several interactive games.  Once you login (you can create a free account), you can play  against the computer or players in other countries. I liked the feedback feature (on the games I played, there was information on why you won or lost.)
