This morning I attended a seminar with Alan November sponsored by the Center for Innovative Education at Kean and the NJ Department of Education. The presentation was thought provoking and very informative (when I sort it out, I will post more).
During this session, Alan mentioned online classes available (via the Department of Education) and his company. The topic? Three classes on web literacy! They are free for the first 1000 NJ educators. These are self-paced learning opportunities. After listening to Alan this morning, I realized how much I really don’t know- but here is a chance to become educated. Howard Gardner developed Multiple Intelligences- or as I would tell my fifth graders- the many ways to be smart. Here is a survey that will help learners determine their strengths and weaknesses. This site does require you to save the user id to get your results. You can also print sheets (click here).
I did this every fall (along with a brief PowerPoint found here). This was a preview for the various learning styles/projects I would use throughout the year. This brief background helped them as we sang (and gestured) our way through science and social studies. And remember- no one way it better.
With the first day of school just around the corner, I thought this clip might provide something for reflection. How will you guide your students this year? Will you change their vision?
