Free Video Podcasting Resources For Students & Teachers!

The site below is connected to a Canadian contest last year, but I noticed that it also provides great tutorials for students on how to create video podcasts. Plus, you can view the winners from last year as an example of a great finished video podcast.

It also provides a Teacher’s Toolbox, that includes lesson plans, strategies, and topics for inclusion of this technology in the classroom. Check it out an tell me what you think.

http://www.mediaeducationweek.ca/mymedia/default.htm

I know from experience that many of our Star Discovery Educators have produced amazing video projects like these.

Have you utilized video podcasting or editing in your classroom?

Does anyone have any examples of video podcasts that I can link to, or post on my Blog to share with other educators?

It’s great to share examples to help others take the next step in their own classroom.

Feel free to contact me for any additional information.

Education Week Blog Features Hall Davidson at the DEN National Leadership Council Institute.

What a great week at the DEN National Leadership Council Institute!

Hall Davidson, Director of The Discovery Educator Network, delivered a great presentation that captured the attention of Education Week’s Kathleen Kennedy Manzo. Wireless communications has become one of the most powerful catalysts of human interaction ever known. Does that make the widespread technology a possible educational technology tool? Hall’s presentation focussed on the possibilities and solutions that cell phones can already provide to educators and their students in the classroom.

Read Kathleen’s post about this topic on her Education Week Blog below. Please scroll down to her July 17th post.

What do you think about Katheleen’s blog post?

What are your ideas about how cell phones can be utilized as a wireless communications tool in the classroom?

Post your responses below to this blog, or feel free to contact me via email.

FREE Education Software Downloads: List of Safe Applications On Microsoft Site

Hi, Everyone.

I hope the summer is treating you well so far. It sounds like many DEN members had a great time at NECC. I found a great resource from a Microsoft site that lists dozens of free educational software downloads. Many of these tools can be utilized to integrate digital media that you find in Discovery Education streaming, but many more are very subject specific tools for educators.

I noticed several for language learning skills, vocabulary building, elementary education tools covering both literacy and mathematics, and multiple teacher aid applications. many of these tools are already rated by users across the country, while newer ones have not, but I’d appreciate it if you would review some of the applications and post your findings to the blog to help others identify downloads that will be helpful.

Note: There are also paid software titles available there, so double check that they are free. Its is visible to the right of each download. These software titles do not provide media content, but they do provide some fun and useful tools for educators.

Instructions:

  • It might require you to register an email address with Windows Live to download, but if it is does it will be worth the time.
  • Visit the link below, and notice that there are multiple categories.
  • Click on the more link found on the left side of the page to display the Education category.
  • Click there, and you will see all of the software titles broken down by subject area.

Have fun, and let everyone know if you find something here that you really like!
