Spring Virtual Conference 2009
Spring Into Action at the DEN Virtual Conference!
Saturday, April 25, 2009
9 AM to 3 PM (EDT)
Over 1000 educators joined us for the DEN Virtual Conference, Spring Into Action. During this unique (and free) professional development event educators had the flexibility to attend online or in-person at one of many regional events hosted by the DEN Leadership Councils.
The day featured a special presentation from Chris Lehmann, Principal of the Science Leadership Academy in the School District of Philadelphia. Entitled Building School 2.0, Lehmann’s presentation examined ideas of constructivist pedagogy and the use of 21st century tools to create schools that are engaging, caring and relevant places of learning for everyone involved.

Great! Is there a schedule of repeat broadcasts available for the West coast?
Are the Star tips sessions two unique sessions or broadcast twice?
We’re prepping our schedule for a local gathering - thank you, Vicki in AZ

Hi, Vicki.
We’ll have all the sessions archived, but we’re not repeating live during the day this time. However, the STAR sessions are two unique sessions with different leads and different STARs.

Hi Lance
Who are the STARs?
April 2nd, 2009 at 4:10 pm
Justin is leading the 12 pm and Mike B. is leading the 3 pm session. Would you like to present? 4 STARs per session so you’ll have 10 minutes.

You mention “local” regional onsite locations, where are these places? Where do we find information about the actual locations?
Thanks

Jutti, check your state’s LC blog to see.
April 6th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
I did. Nothing posted there.
April 6th, 2009 at 4:39 pm
LOL! I love the validation math! Good thing it’s not trig! I’m a little rusty! ; o )
April 6th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
@Jutti: When you go to the registration page you will see a drop down of the 15 in-person events (city and state). More information will be posted as the local organizers finalize the agendas, but if you register for an in-person event they will send you info as well.

I’m interested in this virtual conference, but can’t do the whole day. Can I register and only do part of it?
April 7th, 2009 at 9:31 am
@Christine: Absolutely.
April 10th, 2009 at 5:36 pm
The New York DEN will be hosting face to face events on Long Island and in Scarsdale. We hope to see you there!
April 16th, 2009 at 10:14 am
O this is GREAT! Would I be able to do the same thing and how do I register?
April 16th, 2009 at 10:16 am
I would be interested in seeing a webcast of this event, however I did not see any Canadian sites listed. What would be the cost? I teach general science and biology in a senior high school (10 - 12).
April 16th, 2009 at 11:08 am
@Heather: the sites listed are the in-person gatherings our STAR Discovery Educators host, but most people just participate in the virtual component from home. It’s completely free! Just go to the registration page and sign up. You’ll receive directions via email on how to join the webcast
April 16th, 2009 at 11:51 am
How many PLU’s will we recieve for participating the whole day?
April 16th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
Can this be applied to professional development hours and how?
April 20th, 2009 at 10:47 am
@Jill and Karen: You are more than welcome to pursue PD hours/PLUs but we don’t have a formal mechanism in place to facilitate that.
April 22nd, 2009 at 9:01 am
My principal may count these hours for our professional development trade days, if I can prove I ‘attended’ the sessions. Any suggestions? I assume we don’t get a certificate at the end…
April 22nd, 2009 at 11:16 am
In reference to the partial day event, if we can only be present for part of the day, can we also see the presentations later? If so, how? Also, is Illuminate being used to see the presentations?
April 22nd, 2009 at 1:15 pm
I’m a 6 grade Language Arts teacher in a bilingual school in Buenos Aires Argentina. I integrate IT in my lessons and I would like to know if I can attend this course on line and what the cost is.
Thanking you in advance and waiting for a prompt reply,
Sincerely
Alejandra Quaglia

I can’t seem to register for the virtual conference…
April 24th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
I didn’t receive the info for attending the Virtual (not in person) conference. I only received info about attending the Long Island face-to-face. Can I get info on the virtual conference?

I was really enjoying the conference, lost the connection completely, and cannot get back in. I was really looking forward to hearing Kathy Schrock. I will watch for more of this type of thing again. Thanks so much.

Where can we find the archived sessions from the April 25th Virtual Conference?
May 9th, 2009 at 6:33 pm
I am so grateful. I attended this conference at the GPB building. I felt like a lot was going on. This series of posts will be very helpful.
May 10th, 2009 at 8:23 am
The morning presentations by the STAR groups does not seem to be working
Sowing Seeds of Success: Projects, Ideas and Tips from STAR Discovery Educators. I saw this one but want to see again. Is it going to be available or is there a text version I could get?
May 14th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
Steve had suggested that we download the files for better quality and to be able to read the chat…
BUT how do we do that? Are they also uploaded to Media Share?
May 18th, 2009 at 8:53 am
I can’t seem to view the m4vs, and they don’t seem to have an active link. Help?
May 21st, 2009 at 3:03 pm
Links are still note live. I had my DEN star teacher, Jennifer Hand try to help me.
Please help.
