The DEPD Team Thanks the HI DOE for a Week of the Aloha Spirit!
Discovery Education and Hawaii’s State Department of Education celebrated the launch of Discovery Education streaming on March 8, 2010. The kick-off began with a Day of Discovery hosting over 75 educators from across the state. Educators enjoyed a keynote about the evolution of media in our society and our schools, breakout sessions, and a special ‘lunch and learn’ featuring Discovery Education’s Chief Environmentalist, Philippe Cousteau.
Later that evening, over 100 Hawaii educators, students, and other community members gathered for an Evening of Discovery featuring a Deeper Dive Digital Treasure Hunt through Discovery Education products and stations where participants could create their own movies, learn about internet safety, listen to Philippe Cousteau share his passion for the ocean, and watch a VIP Discovery Channel Screening.
March 9th through March 11th marked the beginning of a digital transformation across the islands. With Discovery Education Professional Development (DEPD) specialists on every island, administrators, educators, and students were shown how to access the new tools and resources now at their fingertips. DEPD specialists explained how to gather Math explanation tutorials, Language Arts songs, interactive Science glossaries, Social Studies video segments and much more. The sessions empowered educators and students alike to access the resources they need to satisfy their natural curiosity and enhance their learning.
