Your on the right track with this Dorie. I noticed that you commented about the number of subconcepts. I am not too familiar with the TEKS so my answer may not help to much. The subconcepts are there to support the scaffolding of the concept. For example, if the standard is, "Students will be able to add and subtract." There are lots of other skills that students need to know in order to add and subtract correctly. How to set up the problem, what the signs mean, borrowing; all of these are subconcepts to the the larger concept, "Students will be able to add and subtract." I hope that helps.

Hi Dorie,

Wow - the Day of Discovery sounds like a great experience, and it must have helped to solidify some of what we learned at the DENNI. I agree that so many teachers only touch on what is available on DE Streaming. I love all the new features, and I can't wait to share the information I've learned with my teachers this year.
I actually wrote in my blog about how to use DE Streaming for differentiation, including information on the builders. Check it out...

I just set up my classroom twitter account in the spring. I am hoping to rotate students into tweeting the happenings of the classroom. I have found some other 2nd grade classrooms. I am hoping to connect with Karie's classroom as well.

As far as surveymonkey, although I have used it. I am now looking to see how students might use it or google forms. I really enjoyed making the survey earlier in this class and hope to get my students creating as well.

We haven't used glogster yet either, so I will have to see how difficult it will be to teach the technology and stay on track with the curriculum. This year I think I will have to share one of the laptop carts, so that makes it harder as well. So, we will see. Thanks for your comments and questions!

Hi Dorie,

Thanks for sharing your tic-tac-toe board. Many of the sites you included are among my favorites (BrainPOP, Wikispaces, Glogster, and Wordle).

Do you have your second graders actually log in and use SurveyMonkey and Twitter? If so, have you encountered any problems or issues, and what have you done to resolve them?

Thanks for your comments and/or suggestions!

You bring up important aspects of PBL in a global forum. Your suggestions help others to think through PBL before implementing.
