Today we honor Ernest Hemingway. He published his first book on August 13th. 1923. It was only 58 pages.

There are so many interesting pieces of trivia about Ernest Hemingway. He was a volunteer ambulance driver in Italy during World War I. He wrote about bullfighting. He survived an airplane crash. He was surrounded by six-toed cats in Key West, Florida. You can learn more about him in our Shmoop biography, which is full of fascinating tidbits.
