The application window for the Discovery Education Student Advisory Board 2013-2014 has just opened. We are seeking high school students who have an interest in digital media and technology, communication, and leadership to apply for spots on this year’s board.

The board meets virtually 4 times during the school year and works on things such as user experience, social media, and blogging. Past board members have said that being on the board “was one of the best things [they] did in high school,” “felt like family,” and “inspired” them to mentor younger students.

If you’d like to apply, complete the online application before the October 25th deadline. Student board members will be notified by October 31st, and our work will begin in November.

Apply today via this link to the online application: dlc.com/desab2013

Hi Logan. The Student Advisory Board is just for high school students, but watch the blog for other opportunities for middle school students — like the Polar Bear Board Challenge. Have a great day.

Sorry, Rebeckah: this opportunity is just for high school students. Stay tuned to the blog, though, because we’ll be offering other opportunities for middle school students this year.

      • Jeanette Edelstein (Reply) on Friday 11, 2013

Hi Grace. The Challenge on today’s post is open to students of all ages! You should try it.

do you know when you are going to do the one for middle school students

    • Jeanette Edelstein (Reply) on Friday 11, 2013

Hi Ahmad. So glad you’re interested in getting more involved with Discovery. Our opportunities for middle school students will be different than the Student Advisory Board. There is one going on right now: The Board Builder Challenge. You should participate in that! Keep checking out our blog posts and you’ll see a variety of opportunities throughout the year. Have a great day!

So is that what the board builder is about? :D

  5. Jeanette (Reply) on Friday 11, 2013

Hi Logan. Board Builder is a tool in your Discovery Education account that lets you build a digital board, including images, text, audio, video, and documents. You can upload content that you created (video from your phone, a selfie, etc.) or you can search for and import resources from Discovery Education. You can use boards for fun, for assignments (if your teacher is okay with that), and sometimes we’ll have challenges or activities involving boards. Happy Board Building!

What is this board builder about?

What if I am in 5th grade will I be able to join ?

    :)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Jeanette (Reply) on Friday 11, 2013

The Board Builder is a tool that you can find right in your Discovery Education account. Look at the bar near the top of the screen and find the colorful circle on the Board Builder tab. The tool lets you create digital boards with video, audio, text, your own content, etc. You can change colors and backgrounds and add captions and headlines. Try it out!

The Student Advisory Board is only for high school students, so you won’t be able to apply this year. Keep an eye on the blog, though, because we will have other activities that everyone can do!

I am in middle school, i just joined but I don’t know how to sign up.

    • Jeanette (Reply) on Friday 11, 2013

Hi Taylor. Welcome! You don’t need to join anything — just using your Discovery Education student account and keeping up with the blog will keep you connected. The Student Advisory Board is only for high school students, but we’ll have lots of other activities for middle school students. Look forward to hearing more from you through our blog and activities. Have a great weekend.
