Fall Leaves on Rocks

I took a walk this morning and couldn’t help noticing all the autumn leaves on the path. Once again, they’re off the branches and underfoot. My neighborhood has huge piles of leaves all raked up for the community leaf collection, and I know just where to go to find the leaves that look like the long-fingered hands of a fairy tale witch.

Depending on where you live, you might have already seen the leaves come and go, or you might be in a place where the Fall leaves don’t… well… fall. Either way, I hope you’re enjoying your November.

Here’s a video for elementary students to remind us about the reasons the leaves change in Autumn. And here’s a video for secondary students to remind us of the same thing. Go ahead — watch both, no matter your age!

Let’s honor the passing of Fall 2013 by writing some short poems about leaves. You can find your own leaves for inspiration, or you can search for images of leaves in your Discovery Education account. Post your short poems in the Comments section!

  29. Jeanette (Reply) on Monday 18, 2013

Hi Angelica! I’m glad you’re enjoying the blog and sorry to hear that your computer has a virus. The good news is that you can access your Discovery Education account from any computer with internet access. Until you fix the computer and get a turn on it, maybe you can watch the videos at the public library or in school. Good luck!

  33. Claire (Reply) on Monday 18, 2013

    Great.

Okay…Non-sequitor…So If any of you guys drink soda from cans, you can take the tabs off and save them. Then when you get a lot mail them to th Ronald McDonald house. This helps The people who are staying there pay for their hopital bills. Ronald McDonald gives them to Wabash Iron and Metal and Wabash pays them forthe scrap metal. They chose the Soda Tb because it stands for that little things and indeed do big things. So please do that and get your family and freinds to do it too.
Also, Jeanette…you could do a blog on it…(hint, hint, wink, wink, nudge, nudge ;) )

    Leaves.-
all of the different colors make me want to shout. It is the season when all of the colors come out.The CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCHING under my feet makes me seek.all of the different shapes and colors are just such a wonder.like an snowflake it seems like their is no 2 leaves exactly the same. All of them coming from different trees. It’s insane how many leaves their are to rake. They all fell down to the ground because of the chilly winter the photosynthesis hates.

  39. Zoe (Reply) on Monday 18, 2013
