Are you a “Plurkster” or a “Twit”?

I have recently joined two social network site and am totally hooked.  www.twitter.com and  www.plurk.com are two really cool places to “hang out”.   In both cases, you are limited to 140 characters to answer the question “what are you doing?”  The networking is unbelievable!  I belong to several listserves, have a myspace and a facebook… but I have never experienced anything as cool as these two new tools.  They are quick and fun and a great way to network and share ideas, resources and just keeping in touch.  The current debate is about which is better… most folks I know started out with Twitter and then joined Plurk.  Most love the threaded conversations that Plurk provides… but are loyal to their “networks” and communities that they have formed on Twitter.  With tools like www.twitterfeed.com and www.pingfm.com you can post your update once and send it to both!  Easy!  Either way, a “plurkster” or a “twit” or both… it is the great new way to communicate!  (It also works as a really great procrastination tool!)

Bus Ride, Monuments in the Rain, “I Can’t Take it Anymore”, Christmas Carols and “googley eyes”

OK… before I start this blog I must apologize.  This blog is primarily going to be for the benefit of those who were here at the DEN NI last night.  Specifically those on “The Fun Bus” with James our serious tour guide and his magical guiding umbrella.  The folks at Discovery were so great to us last night and treated us to a professional tour of DC.  We had a great time DESPITE some serious moments.  My personal goal was to make James, our tour guide, smile.  I FAILED :(  But he did give us a great tour AND a major workout keeping up with him.  Despite his attempts at behavioral modification, SOME of us were quite misbehaved.  NOT ME OF COURSE!  SOME of us were laughing so hard we could not breath… We got to see The Capitol Building, The White House (saw the President’s motor brigade) and the FDR Memorial.  The FDR memorial was FANTASTIC!  I had not been there before and I will definately be going back to spend some more time there.  Just as we were about to leave, my friend Barbara said to me “I thought it was supposed to rain tonight… the weather is holding off”…. GUESS WHAT!  Five minutes later it was POURING!  Most of us made it to the bus in time, but a few of the California Contingent got soaking wet.  Since it was raining, we decided to go to the Kennedy Center next since it was inside.  People were VERY excited about the Kennedy Center because they had WATER AND SODA.  Many of us were very thirsty.  By now things on the bus were getting a bit punchy… I have NO idea what was making people laugh so much… could have been the Christmas Carols, or my telling folks about my honeymoon, or counting churches… don’t know.  What I DO KNOW…. you can’t trust grass, because you can’t put googley eyes on it, they just fall down and become dirt eyes! See what I mean here

This is the picture that Meg and I resized and posted together… why do it again?  When in doubt… steal.

High Five!

Meg Griffin and I are sitting next to each other at the DEN NI.  We just sat through Steve Dembo’s session on blogging…  we just figured out how to resize a picture and upload it for Meg’s site.  When we figured it out, as you knew we would… we were so excited that we TRIED to high five!  Unfortunately, we have become such big geeks that we have lost the ability to high five!  Is there a widget for that?

An information packed day at DEN NI

Today was dedicated to lots of cool technology for education.  First we listened to Hall Davidson’s Keynote on using cell phones in the classroom.  Thanks to “mizmercer” for moderating the Live Blogging!  The rest of the day was dedicated to breakout sessions.  There were many choices involving many different uses of Discovery Streaming, Geo-caching, Multimedia Presentations, Second Life, and AFI.  I attended Hall Davidson’s session on ways to use DE Streaming with Google Earth.  So many cool things to do,  so little time! To access Hall’s Google Earth codes visit http://www.discoveryedspeakersbureau.com/node/87  I also attended Brad Fountain’s session on Podcasting.  Brad showed us new ways to use Audacity to make Podcasts as well as lots of applications for Podcasting in the classroom.  In the afternoon I spent some time with Lance and Matt, Adobe Premiere Elements and some very tempermental computers.  After several frustrations we accomplished making a video using the green screen!  Too Neat!  Dinner was an event within an event!  THE DEN CARNIVAL!  Cotton candy, games, tickets for prizes and Bingo (Dengo actually).  Thanks  so much to all of the dedicated Discovery employees who helped make tonight so much fun.  Matt M… you can’t stump me with your trivia questions!
