We had a wonderful Day of Discovery in Charlotte this past weekend. I shared my presentation… 50 Ways and Beyond. This “50 Ways” was designed specifically for a district that has different levels of technology available. We took a closer look at some of the other assets available in DE Streaming like the images, songs, sound effects, audio files, and speeches. Thank you to the teachers of CMS who shared their day with us and went home excited about trying new things in their classrooms! 50 Ways and Beyond… CMS
Sent to me from someone in my yahoogroup…
I bet some of you who I have met lately could write some really exciting entries…
- CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS -
MY FIRST YEAR IN THE CLASSROOM
to be published by Adams Media (http://www.adamsmed
I am looking for fifty true, inspiring stories by teachers remembering their first year in the
classroom.
Stories should run between 850 and 1000 words, and will be organized along the lines of the school
calendar, illustrating the learning curve experienced by new teachers.
- Facing the first day
- Meeting the students
- Surprising the students
- Bonding with faculty and staff
- Being surprised by the students
- Watching the students bloom
- Saying good-bye
From the hilariously obsessive/compulsiv
poignant lesson one stalwart third grader and his peers teach their novice teacher about love and
acceptance, this moving collection is sure to inspire new and veteran teachers alike.
Stories should be emailed (inserted as a text file into the email or attached as a rich text file) to:
with the word “Submission” somewhere in the subject line. Please remember to include your full name
and contact information both in your email and the story (if attached).
PAYMENT:
Writers will receive $100 for each accepted story as well as a complimentary copy of the anthology.
I look forward to reading your submission.

OK… before I start this blog I must apologize. This blog is primarily going to be for the benefit of those who were here at the DEN NI last night. Specifically those on “The Fun Bus” with James our serious tour guide and his magical guiding umbrella. The folks at Discovery were so great to us last night and treated us to a professional tour of DC. We had a great time DESPITE some serious moments. My personal goal was to make James, our tour guide, smile. I FAILED :( But he did give us a great tour AND a major workout keeping up with him. Despite his attempts at behavioral modification, SOME of us were quite misbehaved. NOT ME OF COURSE! SOME of us were laughing so hard we could not breath… We got to see The Capitol Building, The White House (saw the President’s motor brigade) and the FDR Memorial. The FDR memorial was FANTASTIC! I had not been there before and I will definately be going back to spend some more time there. Just as we were about to leave, my friend Barbara said to me “I thought it was supposed to rain tonight… the weather is holding off”…. GUESS WHAT! Five minutes later it was POURING! Most of us made it to the bus in time, but a few of the California Contingent got soaking wet. Since it was raining, we decided to go to the Kennedy Center next since it was inside. People were VERY excited about the Kennedy Center because they had WATER AND SODA. Many of us were very thirsty. By now things on the bus were getting a bit punchy… I have NO idea what was making people laugh so much… could have been the Christmas Carols, or my telling folks about my honeymoon, or counting churches… don’t know. What I DO KNOW…. you can’t trust grass, because you can’t put googley eyes on it, they just fall down and become dirt eyes! See what I mean here
