366 Days of Music #31

Album Cover 1WOW! I made it through 1 month with only 11 to go. I feel great today having reached this milestone. I hope it comes across in this song post. It’s 30 seconds long and loopable. While I retain full distribution rights to the songs I do want to give all of you a chance to participate so if you want to name this song, leave me a suggestion in the comments. I will give you full credit for the title and a link back to your blog.

#31 First Milestone.mp3 (Thanks to Tracy Standhart for naming this sogn by leaving me a comment)

As I promised yesterday I want to share how I get that little blue play button next to the file so you don’t have to launch a player to actually sample the song before downloading. It’s called Play Tagger and it by those wonderful folks at del.icio.us. Play Tagger is a single line of javascript that looks at a web page for any links to mp3 files. When Play Tagger find an mp3 file link on a page it overlays that little player and also allows you to bookmark it using del.icio.us. SWEET! I have placed the javascript code in my widgetize any html widget that appears on every page of my blog. Hint it is the same one that holds my blog roll from Google Reader.

And it gets better. If you go to the Play Tagger page http://del.icio.us/help/playtagger there is a bookmarklet that you can drag to your quick links bar. Then whenever you are on a page with mp3s you can just click that bookmarklet and you have instant play buttons. It even works with DE streaming songs. Go get the Play Tagger bookmarklet and then go to this Valentine Day song to try it out (DE streaming account required).

How to Tell Which Direction the Paper Goes into the Printer - Paper Feed Icons

How to Tell Which Direction the Paper Goes into the Printer

I was inspired by the post above to go through my building and create a little guide to the different paper feed icons for my staff.

This is a back to basics post.

Most printers, copiers and fax machines have icons to show which way the paper should go. This is helpful especially if you are using letterhead or envelopes when you need to put the paper in with a particular side to be printed on or have the print facing a certain direction.

For the most part remember:

  • Lines on the icon show where the printing will happen. Make sure if using letterhead, form, or preprinted stationery that you face the paper the correct way.
  • The fold on the paper icon indicates the top of the page. Again this may be important with letterhead, forms or preprinted stationery.
  • Envelope symbols indicate printing side or closure flap up side. This is important not only for printing but may prevent jams. Best bet if the printer doesn’t have envelope icons to check the manual.
  • Envelopes may also be preprinted to pay attention the stamp on the icon or the side of the closure flap.
  • These rules also apply for when you are doing double-sided printing manually.

The numbers on the pictures don’t mean anything. It’s just the way Flickr uploaded them.

366 Days of Music #30

Album Cover 1Almost to the end of the first month of this and I can’t believe I made it this far. There were some hiccups where I was just too busy to post. Also it would be nice if people gave the songs some decent names other than the date as it helps classes know what kind of song it is without having to listen to each one. Just leave your suggestion in the comments. :-)
Stay tuned tomorrow as I plan on sharing with you how I get that little blue player next to each song so you can listen to it without downloading or opening a player.

Digital photo printing prices and reviews

print rates for poster sizesDigital photo printing prices and reviews

Printing at school is really a budget buster. It is almost always cheaper to print photos in color at a service outside of the school. Laser printers that may be in the school are almost always more costly than the photo printing services available to the public. When you have the time to choose where to print, head over to Printrates.com. They monitor the prices being charged for picture printing of all different amounts and sizes.
