Here is the plan:

Teachers need to hear other people than me saying how technology should be used in the classroom. So I will form a professional development group of 4 teachers. They will be required to listen to 2 podcasts of my choosing and one of their choice per week. We meet once a month for 45 minutes to discuss what they learned.

Required podcasts I am considering right now is The SmartBoard Lessons Podcast http://pdtogo.com/smart/ and Women of Web 2.0 http://edtechtalk.com/WomenofWeb2.0

Post a link in the comments if you can suggest another regularly posted podcast so I can build a list for them to choose from or if you have suggestions on how to make this a success.

This is a good idea. I may try it with a group from my school.

As you know I believe in the power of Web Cubed – consume, create, collaborate. Here’s a perfect extension to your project: After a month or so have your core group of teachers collaborate on creating a technology-focused podcast and share it with the rest of us. I would LOVE to add another educator-created, tech-focused, classroom-applicable, student-abled podcast to my listening library.

Great Idea! And you are so right, teachers do need a chance to listen to one another frequently. We are not given the time to share best practices or ideas. This needs to become one of those things we invest in for our own “self-development” even if our districts won’t provide it on a regular basis as professional development.
How about this podcast http://podictionary.com/ Podictionary is great for any teacher.

Can’t tell you how much I appreciate your input. I feel like I am heading into uncharted waters.

@Nancy – One of my hopes is that at least one teacher will want to do this as a result. It’s my opinion that too often times people do workshops or attend workshops on podcasting in education without really listening to them and thinking about what makes a podcast that you want to hear again and again. I intend on talking about some of these points in our talk to help guide them to success if they choose to do a podcast.

@Tracy I have noted your suggestion and think it is excellent to them to have a choice as we have a program of robust vocabulary at my school that introduces new words to students at each grade level every 2 weeks. The teachers can add some depth to the word that they choose for their grade level by listening to this podcast. Excellent.

Technology in the classroom and the pictures of the apple products caught my attention. This is a really neat video from ACU (a school that partnered with Apple and will be giving iphones/itouches to all incoming freshmen in August) that shows how they plan to use iphones/itouches in the classroom.
