It’s a Boy!
It’s a boy!
“What am I supposed to do, Miss?” Jay asked. “This girl, she gave it to me this morning.”
I’d heard rumors that we had a pregnant sixth grader in the building. The baby shower invitation Jay handed me confirmed the rumors.
The card was one of those fill-in-the-blank invitations found in packs of 6 or 10 in grocery stores. The cover featured blue baby booties. Inside, obviously written in her best handwriting in blue marker, were the words “You’re invited to a baby shower for Mary.” Mary is registered at Target, Babies R Us, and Toys R Us. Hearts and flowers dotted the i’s.
“Miss, I’ve never been to a baby shower. What am I supposed to do?”
I reluctantly handed the card back to Jay.
“I think it’s best if you ask your mom, Jay. She can help you.”

Heartbreaking stuff. Of course that baby deserves to be showered. But oh the things an 11-yr-old shouldn’t really have to know yet.

I just heard that one of our boys is going to be a father. The mother is a 16-year old. Children having children virtually never has a happy ending.
