School libraries are being closed and school librarians are being removed from the libraries here in California and all over the U.S. Research has shown that schools with strong school libraries and a credentialed teacher librarian have higher test scores. The teacher librarian collaborates with the classroom teacher to incorporate the amazing resources found in DE Streaming into classroom instruction. Teacher librarians train other teachers as well as students how to find and use the best resources. Teacher librarians instruct students to go beyond Google to search the “hidden web”, including DE Streaming and our subscription databases.

It was so exciting to attend the National Training Academy at DE headquarters in June, but as soon as I got back to California, I was in the midst of the crazy end of school time. I didn’t get a chance until vacation time to savor the things we learned about and participated in at the academy. Thankfully, we were given lots of resources to remind us of what we had discovered and many suggestions for sharing those resources.

As we prepared to start the new school year here, I was able to spend several hours with classroom teachers training them how to use DEstreaming and helping them discover ways to make it personal for their lesson planning. The teachers were very excited and are looking forward to the mini-lessons we have planned for some after-school sessions on using DEstreaming tools as the year goes on.

I’m going to encourage teachers to join me in watching the streamathon coming up on September 23rd. Thanks again to the team at headquarters for all of the encouragement. It was fun too!
